Here's my Story
I fell into one of two categories when it came to dating and relationships.
First Category
The first category I fell into was having numerous failed relationships and not knowing exactly why they didn’t work out. I was attractive and men were interested in dating me, but it didn’t lead to anywhere substantial. Many of my friends seem to be in the same boat. I didn’t know where we went wrong. I experimented with various relationship formulas from different books but they too failed to yield the results I desired, which was to be in a committed relationship with a top-quality man that would eventually lead to marriage.
In my mind I was dating for marriage but the tactics and methods I was using were not marriage destination tactics, I would later realize.
Also, while in these relationships, I made the mistake of placing the relationship squarely in the man’s hands. I believed that they would naturally take the lead and guide the relationship to the next level. Women are always being told that men lead, and women follow (his lead). However, this approach did not yield the results I desired. It was as though the men I dated didn’t know what to do without my direction. They were ultimately waiting for me to lead (guide) before taking action and fulfilling their manly duties. Maybe this was/is the missing piece in the breakdown of relationships.
It was this realization that sparked the birth of Women Lead Men Follow.
Second Category
The second category I fell into was not having any prospective dates or anyone asking me out. I thought my Mr. Right would just show up wherever I was and ask me out, without requiring any effort, intention or thought on my part. That’s how it worked in the movies. Additionally, it had worked previously before albeit at the time I did not yet have the right formula to transition these initial dates into more meaningful, serious relationships.
I erroneously assumed that being asked out and getting approached by eligible men would always come easily. However, when I changed jobs and moved to a new environment, I realized that getting dates wasn’t as effortless as I had originally thought.
Nonetheless, I thought because I was attractive it was my God given right to be approached by the most gorgeous men who were also the best catch and had their life together. Boy was I wrong. What had worked for me at that particular job was no longer so easy to attain.
During this time, I was sharing dating advice with other women online about some of the tidbits I had learned over the years such as how to get him to buy you gifts. I thought I had a good handle on relationships. But my own dating life was stagnant. I didn't fully grasp the significance of putting myself out there or understood what I was doing wrong. I was attractive, I dressed nicely, I knew how to interact with men, but I was not getting any dates. Albeit, at the time, I did not consider it a big issue. I thought my Mr. Right would eventually show up. I was taught that all attractive women get their Mr. Right, right? After all, it always seemed to work out in the movies and novels I consumed, so it had to work out in real life too. RIGHT?
The Wake-Up Call
My wake-up call came when one of my social media followers messaged me to share how my dating advice had benefited her. She was now benefiting in her relationship, getting gifts from her date. However, she wanted to know how to make her relationship last and what to do next to become his girlfriend. I was flabbergasted. She was tangibly benefiting from my advice while I was still sitting at home, manless. To add to my surprise, she didn't even fit the conventional beauty standards as I did. It was a humbling moment that made me question why my own dating life wasn't progressing.
I quickly learned that it is not the prettiest, slimmest, nor sexiest woman who gets the dream relationship and man (that is the illusion at first),
but it is the woman who consistently puts herself out there and shows up for herself and what she wants.
This wake-up call led me to discover the real secret to successful dating. With newfound determination, I took control of my dating life.
Within a year after that message from my follower...
I was married and no longer second guessing when the right man would show up. I took control of my dating life and got exactly what I desired.
Too Hot, Too Cold
However, before reaching this point, I had to hone in on my dating skills. My original dating methods were all over the place.
Sometimes I would be too hot🔥 when I needed to be cold❄️ or too cold❄️ when I needed to be hot🔥 (no book taught me when to know the difference) and without fail my relationships would fizzle out. I know the struggle of trying to decode dating advice that sometimes works and sometimes falls flat.
I had to learn all these methods mostly by trial and error. Also, over the span of 15 years I read everything I could find on relationships and the psychology of both men and women. Additionally, I took this passion further by completing a degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland. Finally, I started to tread a new path that gave me consistent results.
I can now say that the loving relationship I am in is not because of luck, whim or him. It is because of my due diligence.
My reward is having a loving husband who aligns with my values. With him I can sit in my femininity and work on any creative measures I choose, if I choose. Or I can relax, take trips, go shopping or do whatever I desire. None of this is because of luck.
